Norwich is an dynamic yet safe and friendly city for international students, offering ancient history, exciting shopping, great places to eat and a wide range of cultural events and venues.

The University of East Anglia is situated in the picturesque city of Norwich, which lies in the heart of East Anglia’s most beautiful countryside. Norwich city centre is just four kms from the University and frequent buses run from the campus to the city centre.

Norwich is an historic city with many original medieval buildings, including an eleventh century cathedral and a Norman castle which overlooks the city.

A major city with a busy, cosmopolitan atmosphere, Norwich is famed for its variety of cultural entertainment which includes cinemas, theatres and a number of fascinating museums and art galleries. At night, there are venues to suit all tastes, from traditional English pubs to modern bars and clubs.

The city is home to a large student population drawn from many schools and colleges and has a young outlook and relatively low cost of living. The University’s international student community is widely recognised as contributing to the city’s atmosphere and there are several established organisations, such as the Norwich International Club, which provide opportunities to meet local people.

Norwich has plenty of street cafés and international restaurants offering a wide choice of food, from Indian, Chinese, vegetarian, Greek and Thai to Mexican, Spanish, Italian and English.

One of Britain’s top ten shopping cities, Norwich features a unique blend of independent and specialist shops as well as all the major high street chains and supermarkets, plus two large shopping centres. The city also boasts England’s largest open-air market where fresh fruit and vegetables can be bought six days a week.

Connections
There are frequent flights to Norwich International airport from Amsterdam, one of Europe’s largest international hubs. The airport is also just 15 minutes from the University campus.

Norwich has a fast and frequent train service to London which takes just under two hours, as well as good links to the rest of the UK. The bus and train network provides many opportunities for day trips to the picturesque countryside and coastline of East Anglia.

East Anglia
This region is famous for its unspoilt countryside and waterways and is a popular holiday destination. There are many small villages and large stately homes to visit, as well as miles of riverside walks and cycle paths which can be found only a short distance from the city.

Norwich is also only 30km from the Norfolk coastline, which is home to miles of beautiful beaches and a number of wildlife sanctuaries.

A survey found that East Anglia has the least crime, best health and among the highest employment rates in the country.
