General English
Program description
The General English program is designed to improve general English language proficiency for use in everyday situations. The courses are suitable for students of all levels who wish to focus on developing communicative skills for everyday living while learning about American culture. Students at intermediate and advanced levels work on refining language skills for professional or personal use. Students are grouped according to language level.
Program aims
- To provide high quality general English instruction which helps you improve all aspects of your English language ability.
- To develop ability and confidence in speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation and social communication.
- To provide a program with flexible entry points and different durations of study which cater for students at different language levels from elementary to advanced.
- To provide a program which offers a university environment and resources.
- To enable you to adjust to the demands, challenges and expectations of living, working, or studying in the U.S.
- To provide an introduction to local, regional and national culture through a range of social activities and visits.
Core skills:
You will develop knowledge, skills and confidence in the key areas of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, social English, listening, speaking, reading, writing, American culture, discussion, presentation skills and independent study.

Program outcomes
- Progression into Academic English for further study at OSU (available only for students on the 21 and 27 lesson programs).
