Academic Facilities

At Oregon State University, you’ll find a wealth of support services to help you achieve academic success.

The Valley Library
The Valley Library is Oregon State's main library and is located in the heart of the campus. The library provides support to meet the informational, reference and research needs of students, faculty and staff.

The library's collection includes more than 1.4 million volumes, 14,000 serials and more than 500,000 maps and government documents. Off campus, you can access the Library's online databases, e-journals and e-books.

Within the library, there are learning spaces, group study rooms, research study rooms and four enhanced classrooms available for instruction, presentations, workshops and meetings, plus more than 100 computers for student use, a laptop check out service and a number of multi-media labs.

The Valley Library also offers a variety of services to help support your studies:

The Reference Center is the hub of the Information Commons. Reference staff can help you plan a research strategy and learn to effectively use electronic tools for retrieving relevant information. Student assistants are also available to help with software applications and technology troubleshooting.

The Collaborative Learning Center provides tutoring and one-on-one assistance for students from peer tutors and graduate teaching assistants. Tutoring is available for a range of science subjects, including biology, math, chemistry and physics.

E-learning and computing facilities
To supplement face-to-face teaching, you can access Web-based support via Blackboard, an online virtual teaching and learning environment. It allows instructors to administer tests and quizzes, post grades and lecture notes and host discussion boards. Through Blackboard, you can contact your instructors and classmates, keep a calendar and maintain an address book.

The Center for Writing and Learning
The Center for Writing and Learning offers free help with any writing task at any stage of the writing process and is open to all Oregon State students, as well as to staff, faculty and members of the Corvallis community. Writing assistants can help with all aspects of the writing process from brainstorming and organization to questions of grammar and vocabulary usage. The Online Writing Lab allows you to send your writing project to a Writing Assistant who will help you with organizing, developing and revising your work.

Academic Success Center
The Academic Success Center offers a range of courses to support student success. The staff at the center provide practical study tips and online guidance notes covering study skills, academic coaching in small and interactive groups and supplementary instruction for students enrolled on highly analytical courses.
